Yared Belay was born and raised in Tigrai, Ethiopia, where a deep connection to land and community shaped his path early on. He studied agriculture in Jimma, one of Ethiopia’s most renowned coffee regions, gaining both scientific knowledge and hands-on experience in sustainable farming.
Driven by a passion for quality and impact, Yared founded Roots of Coffee to grow, source, and deliver premium Ethiopian coffee to the world. He works closely with farmers across multiple regions of Ethiopia, supporting them to improve cultivation, harvesting, and post-harvest practices while preserving the integrity of each origin.
Today, Yared imports his coffee to the United States, operating a warehouse in New Jersey and an office in Rockville, Maryland. Through Roots of Coffee, he is committed not only to exceptional coffee, but also to giving back—reinvesting in farming communities and creating lasting economic opportunities from the ground up.
